Potential Pathogenic Bacteria in Loose Oil Palm Fruit (LOPF) from Smallholdings in Serian, Sarawak

چکیده
Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) is a species of tree cultivated mainly for its oil. Malaysia the second largest producer oil behind Indonesia. During harvesting fruit bunch, some over ripped fruits will get detached from bunch and these loose be contaminated with bacteria soil. Collecting ground normally done manually by hand this may allow transmission soil to workers.

According Table 1, study reported on microbial contents collected three different locations smallholding in Serian Sarawak, Malaysia. The result shows that F3S3 at Kampung Raeh Baru has highest number colonies, 20.4 x 105 CFU mL-1, while lowest colonies was F2S1, which Beradau, Siburan, 2.4 mL-1.
This aimed isolate identify (LOPF) determine quality affect safety health farm workers. Loose were smallholder farms located Serian, Sarawak. weighted stomached peptone water stomacher bags plated Nutrient agar. 16S rRNA PCR carried out bacterial growing plate. purified DNA product sent Apical Scientific Sdn. Bhd. sequencing. sequences obtained directly compared Genbank through Blastn server. 2 15 identified samples including Chryseobacterium indologenes, Enterobacter hormaechei, Klebsiella pneumonia, quasipneumoniae, sp., Pantoe dispersa, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, mendocina, nitroreducens, Serratia marcescens, Simplicispira metamorpha. Some could pathogenic, hence, it important communicate findings research provide sufficient knowledge farmers about biological hazards associated order them take precaution proper handling fruits.

Palm Oil and Palm Waste Potential in Indonesia
The expansion of oil palm cultivation in Indonesia has been driven by a strong world demand for food especially fats and oils. Commencing in the island of Sumatra, it spread out to other island like Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Irian but not to the island of Bali which was already well developed. The role of palm oil in developing remote inland regions and improving the standard of living of rural ...

Among palm oil millers, the ripeness of oil palm Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) is determined through visual inspection. To increase the productivity of the millers, many researchers have proposed with a new detection method to replace the conventional one. The sensitivity of such a sensor plays a crucial role in determining the effectiveness of the method. In our preliminary study a novel oil palm fr...
متن کاملLogged peat swamp forest supports greater macrofungal biodiversity than large‐scale oil palm plantations and smallholdings
Intensive land expansion of commercial oil palm agricultural lands results in reducing the size of peat swamp forests, particularly in Southeast Asia. The effect of this land conversion on macrofungal biodiversity is, however, understudied. We quantified macrofungal biodiversity by identifying mushroom sporocarps throughout four different habitats; logged peat swamp forest, large-scale oil palm...

The twenty-five fold expansion of oil palm cultivation in Sarawak over the past two and a half decades constitutes the most rapid and radical transformation of the agrarian landscape ever seen in that state. From 23,000 ha in 1980, mostly in government schemes, the area planted with oil palm has increased to over 580,000 ha in 2006, mostly in private estates, closing in on an official target of...
متن کاملCellulose Phosphate from Oil Palm Biomass as Potential Biomaterials
The present study investigates cellulose phosphate from oil palm biomass (OPEFB-CP) as a potential biomaterial. To this effect, oil palm biomass microcrystalline cellulose (OPEFB-MCC) was phosphorylated using the H3PO4/ P2O5/ Et3PO4/ hexanol method. Characterization of OPEFB-CP was performed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTI...
